Teaser Tuesday: Born of Illusion, Dead Ever After, Someday Someday Maybe, Sanctum, Anna and the French Kiss, & Cruentus

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

I take a deep breath and open myself up. Over the years, I've realized that my clairvoyance has separate facets - emotions that come to me when I touch other people, uncontrollable visions that pop up out of nowhere, and those rare occasions when I get the eerie sense that something bad is about to happen.

For survival's sake, I've had to hone my observation skills to a razor-sharp point because the truth is that what people say isn't always how they feel.

~ Born of Illusion by Teri Brown, pg. 62 (ARC)

"Oddly enough, considering I was facing a conspirator in my murder, I was not afraid of her."

~ Dead Ever After (Sookie Stackhouse #13) by Charlaine Harris, Kindle Location 939

... I can walk at a leisurely pace down Fifth Avenue and imagine that someday, maybe, I'll go into one of these stores instead of just walking past them looking hungrily into their windows, that someday, maybe I'll be carrying a real purse and wearing heels like a grown-up lady instead of walking down Fifth Avenue in Doc Marten combat boots with an apron and a corkscrew and a crumb scraper in my canvas bookbag.

~ Someday, Someday, Maybe by Lauren Graham, pg. 24

I reached out, peeling his hands from their death grip on the railing. I guided his arms around me until I stood, safe, inside the circle of his arms. Apart from the pounding of his heart and the acceleration of his breathing, he didn't give me any hint of how he felt about it. He simply let me pull him around me like a blanket, like a suit of armor.

"Malachi, can I be with your right now, wherever you are?"

He moved very slowly, as if afraid he would wake my memories and fears. But this time I welcomed the tightening of his arms around me and leaned back when his chin came to rest on top of my head.

"I thought you'd never ask," he said very softly. "Yes."

~ Sanctum by Sarah Fine, pg. 195-196

He picks up another (grape) and smiles. "Open up." I open up. The grape brushes my lower lip as he slides it in. It explodes in my mouth, and I'm so startled by the juice that I nearly spit it out. The flavor is intense, more like grape candy than actual fruit. To say I've tasted nothing like it before is an understatement. Meredith and St. Clair laugh. "Wait until you try them as wine," she says.

~ Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins, pg.38

Arturo rose from his chair, leaned his two palms on the mahogany desk, and looked hard at his son. Fury bubbled deep inside of him, but his appearance told no such tale. “You seem to forget, my son, that you were right there carrying her out the door. You also seem to forget how you begged me to let you marry her.”

~ Cruentus: Rise to Power by L.S. Broomfield, pg .35
