Top Ten Tuesday: 4/26/11

Top Ten Tuesday comes from The Broke and The Bookish.

Today asked us to list the Top 10 Book Mean Girls:

1. Bellatrix LaStrange from The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
Does this one truly need an explanation?

2. Clove from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Ugh - this girl seriously irked me. She takes way too much pleasure in killing. She hasn't been cast yet in the film so I just googled this image.

3. Monica Morrel from the Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine
This girl is a witch with a capital W. I hate how she treats Claire and what she did to Shane's family.

4. Jessica Wakefield from the Sweet Valley High Series (especially after Sweet Valley Confidential) by Francine Pascal
I hate how selfish and obnoxious she can be. I wanted to punch her on more than one occasion during this series.

5. Amy March from Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
She is too caught up in appearances. Her whining was so annoying. Plus, I'm still bitter that she burned Jo's novel.

6. Lauren Mallory from the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer
This girl is just so nasty. I don't understand what her problem is - Bella isn't my favorite person either, but Lauren is just the typical stuck up high school girl.

7. Melinda Jeffers from the Wake trilogy by Lisa McMann
There is no excuse for how mean she is to Janie.

8. Hilly Holbrook from The Help by Kathryn Stockett
Please don't judge all southern women based on this character. I can't believe how evil she was throughout the book. She got everything she deserved.

9. Bella Swan from the Twilight Saga
She was so whiny and indecisive that it annoyed me. If I hadn't loved the Cullens she would have been enough to force me to stop reading.

10. Debbie Pelt from the Southern Vampire series by Charlaine Harris
I just kept wanting Sookie to punch this one in the face. Ugh.

Comments

  1. I love that you used pictures! That shot of Bellatrix is perfect.

We novelists can all sympathize with Jo when Amy burns her book. :) That was one utterly painful scene.

    Great list!

  2. @Jenna - I got the picture idea from another blog while I was visiting. The novel thing in Little Women just makes me sick to my stomach. I can't even imagine trying to write back in the day without my mac and then having someone burn it. I wanted to throttle Amy.

  3. I forgot about Debbie Pelt... that girl was a crazy homicidal maniac!

  4. OMG, I hated Amy from "Little Women". I can't believe Laurie married her. *Shakes head* What a stinking brat!

  9. I completely forgot about Debbie Pelt. Talk about hating a character. I could have slapped her several times. I agree with you on Bellatrix, Monica, and Melinda!

  10. Bellatrix Lestrange - great choice! And yes, it was quite spiteful of Amy to burn Jo's manuscript like that.

  11. Great list! I've had people comment on mine that Amy doesn't deserve her place, but I think she dererves for the book-burning alone! Thanks for stopping by my blog :-)

  12. fantastic list. I completely forgot about Lauren from Twilight. Debbie Pelt would have been my choice from the Southern vampire series too with Arlene running a close second.

  13. Great list! Completely agree with Bella (both of them) and great call on Amy!

  14. Great list! I hadn't thought of Debbie Pelt, actually! She was definitely mean... I didn't put Bella on my list, because she wasn't actually mean... She was just annoying and whiny and definitely missing a backbone.

Thanks for stopping by and following! :)

  16. Debbie Pelt gets hers in the end. I'm interested to see what their interpretation of her is in the upcoming season of True Blood.

  17. I did not think about Amy March, Clove, or Bellatrix but you're so right! Awesome list.

  18. Clove was awful! I could not stand her. Great picks all around. I love how you included Amy, she definitely would have been a high school's mean girl in a modern adaptation. :)

  19. I love that you put Bella on the list, I have a serious dislike of her.

  21. O awesome list!

I really need to read The Help.

  22. How could I forget Debbie Pelt! And I didn’t think to include Amy even though I just finished reading Little Women! I have no idea who Lauren Mallory is because I never finished the Twilight series…have seen Hilly from The Help on so many lists and am determined to read the book now to see what everyone is talking about!

  23. I also love the Bellatrix pic. She nearly made my list - but I figured she was more evil and deadly, rather than mean/ someone who needs a smack down. Granted...if you take into account she was having "relations" with Voldemort *shudders at the thought*...

^^ Thanks for visiting my blog!

  24. Amy March is an interesting choice. I don't think I'd put her on my list, though...

Totally agree with Bella. She still makes me want to slap her (and I haven't read anything Twilight-related in years)!

  25. I really like your choices, and the pictures!

  26. Goodness, I totally forgot how annoying Amy March was in Little Women! She really needed a good smack. And I completely agree with you about Jessica, snobbish girl that she was. It's no wonder so many readers preferred Elizabeth.

  27. Bella Swan, really? Great picks.
