Author Interview & Giveaway: Theresa Rizzo

We're excited to welcome Theresa Rizzo to Reading Lark today to discuss her novel, The Lives Between Us.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: I love this cover! How do you feel like it links with the story?

Theresa: Andrea, so glad you like the cover! It took me a month of searching images for something that might work.

Most of the story takes place over a Michigan winter, so the snow and gray seemed appropriate. Since embryonic stem cells (ESC) are at the heart of the controversy in this book, the snowflakes and orbs reminded me of little souls and the flame represents life, warmth, and hope to me.

Also, I loved that it had two lanterns with all the flakes between them—since it’s people’s morals and beliefs around ESCs that come between characters in the story.

Then, it really appealed to me that the cover is gray, black, and white, since I feel the issue is anything but black and white and mostly gray.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: What is your favorite genre to read?

Theresa: If I had to pick one, I’d say romance. I think love is the glue that holds us all together. But I also enjoy some YA, suspense, and women’s fiction.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: Which of your characters is most like you?

Theresa: Most like me? Yikes, now that would be telling! There’s a lot of me in all the characters. That’s the fun of writing; I get to express all aspects of my personality through different characters.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: If you were trapped on a deserted island with only three books/novels, which ones would you choose?

Theresa: A survival manual? Or is my island decked out like a luxury resort? If so, I’d probably pick a couple of favorite romances—maybe Lisa Kleypas’s contemporary works and Susan Elizabeth Phillips or Kristan Higgins—to keep it light, and then a spiritual non-fiction book to remind me to keep the faith and that God loves me and has a greater plan in mind for me.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: It's a tradition to ask - What's your favorite bird?

Theresa: Who would have thought this would be such a tough question for me? I love the pretty yellow finches, but I’d have to pick a Jenny wren because it has such a sweet song and I have such fond memories of my grandma and I watching the nest in her backyard.
