We hope you're enjoying our new meme here at Reading Lark - In Other Words! Each Sunday we bring you a collection of literary quotes selected by our awesome blog team centered around a different theme or topic. Our favorite authors have a way with words, and we can't wait to share them with you. Enjoy - and feel free to share YOUR favorite quote about this week's theme in our comments section!

This week's theme: Destiny/Fate
Julie:
This week I'm picking a quote from a book I just finished. It stuck with me and was the quote I had in mind when I picked this week's topic.

"Some things are destined to be -- it just takes us a couple of tries to get there."
— J.R. Ward (Lover Mine)

Andrea:
I am picking two this week because I can't decide.

"Fate is like a strange, unpopular restaurant filled with odd little waiters who bring you things you never asked for and don't always like."
— Lemony Snicket

"No story is a straight line. The geometry of a human life is too imperfect and complex, too distorted by the laughter of time and the bewildering intricacies of fate to admit the
straight line into it's system of laws."
— Pat Conroy (Beach Music)

Tevya:
I am a hopeless romantic so for me fate, destiny, and love are all tied up together. I love the idea that two people were destined to be together. I love the idea of soulmates, and that people are drawn together because they are meant to be together. That was one of my favorite things about the Twilight Saga, the way Stephenie Meyer wrote of Edward and Bella as having a shared destiny. That being said, I have two favorite quotes on this subject...

"I squared my shoulders and walked forward to meet my fate, with my destiny solidly
at my side." -Stephenie Meyer (New Moon)

"When I said my fate, there was no question that I meant the two of us. We were just halves of the whole." -Stephenie Meyer (Breaking Dawn)

Paula:
And within just a few hours of each other, Tevya and Paula picked the same quote.
Great minds think alike.

"I squared my shoulders and walked forward to meet my fate, with my destiny solidly
at my side." - Stephenie Meyer (New Moon)

  1. Andrea, couldn't you have picked vampires too? It would have been an all vampire post. ;-)
