Top Ten Tuesday 2/8/11

This week the topic was Top 10 Characters You'd Name Your Kids After:
(Andrea = Odds, Tevya = Evens)
1. Atticus Finch from To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Atticus is such a strong name and always makes me think of standing up for what you believe in. I also like the fact that it's unique.
2. Garrett from Nicholas Sparks' Message in a Bottle
I actually did name my son after this character. It's just such a strong name that doesn't fit into any stereotypes. I could see a Garrett on horseback on a ranch, in a Firehouse, in a Dr.'s lab coat, or on Wall Street.
3. Calla Tor from Nightshade by Andrea Cremer
Calla is such a unique name and makes me think of something beautiful.
4. Aiden from Nora Roberts' Jewels of the Sun - It's a romantic name that makes me think of Ireland; green rolling hills and a smokey pub. If my daughter had been a boy, she would have been Aiden.
5. Josephine March from Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
I always loved this character as a child. She is a symbol for strong, independent thinking females. I would, however, call my daughter Joey for short.
6. SiddaLee from the Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells
I tried so hard to get my husband to agree to name our daughter either SiddaLee or Sidda. I love that name. It's got such a southern drawl to it, and I love Sidda in the books.
7. Annabel Lee from the Poe poem of the same name
I have always loved Poe's work and the name Annabel. It makes me think of southern culture, strong love, and mystery. It also means easy to love, awwwww.
8. Scarlett O'Hara from Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
I love that name. It's a strong southern name, but I love that she can be the great southern belle and still be a strong willed, stubborn woman.
9. Sam and Dean Winchester from the TV show, Supernatural
If you are a fan of this show you need no explanation...
10. Claire Standish The Breakfast Club
I love the Breakfast Club and it's Maddy's middle name.

Haha Sam and Dean! And I love the names Calla, Garrett and especially Scarlett.
ReplyDelete@Laura - You must be a Winchester fan. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI love the name Aiden! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I love your header on your blog. :)
I used Cosette from Les Miserables for a middle name for one of my girls. I like the character Eponine more, but couldn't imagine how badly people would butcher it her whole life. ;)
ReplyDeleteAnnabel Lee is my favourite Poe poem. Also, it is a lovely name for a girl, and a great tavern in Baltimore.
ReplyDelete@Chrystal - Thank you for the compliment. We are quite fond of our birdies too. :)
ReplyDelete@DanyStormborn - Annabel Lee is my favorite Poe poem as well! :)
Loved reading this! Two names that would make my list are Richard and Nicci - both from the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind.
ReplyDelete@Christin - I am glad you enjoyed it! We had a lot of fun with it.
ReplyDeleteI've seen Atticus on several lists today. I wonder if schools are about to get a whole bunch of little Atticuses running around?
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I love Annabell and Sidda is really unique! In a good way of course :)Thanks for stopping by my blog!
ReplyDelete@Karen - I have never taught an Atticus, but I would be interested to see too.
ReplyDelete@Danielle - Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment. We truly appreciate it.
I think Calla is a great name too!
ReplyDeleteI love the name Atticus, although it's hard to imagine him as a little kid.
@Alison - LOL, so true about Atticus. I do plan on using that name at least as a middle name though if I ever have a little boy.
ReplyDeleteI almost put Annabel Lee on my list, but then I thought: if I would be naming my children any of these names in the hope that some of their characteristics would rub off, I'm not sure I would name them after any of Poe's characters! :p I totally agree with you about Jo March -- she's one of my favorites. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI approve of Sam and Dean! Love those Winchesters.
ReplyDeleteAnd I wish I'd thought of Atticus, he would totally have made my list!
Very interesting name suggestions ... I've never thought on using any of them though :-)
ReplyDelete@couchpotatocritic: LOL, good point. I promise I only chose Annabel because I liked the name - not because I wanted the characteristics.
ReplyDelete@R - I am glad you approve! I also love the Winchesters and Atticus.
@Kah - I think Atticus and Annabel are the only two I might actually use. :)
Oooh, Scarlett is a great name! Then again, a lot of colors make really great names. Amber, Jade...I guess those are jewel tones...*shrug*
ReplyDelete@Vicki - LOL, I never even thought of the whole jewel tone thing. Thanks for making me smile. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat names! I thought of Calla as well. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting and leaving such a nice comment! :")
ReplyDeleteI totally agree: Sidda is such an awesome name! And Atticus is on quite a lot list - but he is a great character! Who wouldn't like to have someone like him in his family?!
Great that you listed on E.A.Poe name, too!
Have a great week, folks! :")

ReplyDeleteNice list. I like Atticus and Aiden. Claire is also a beautiful name!
ReplyDeleteI like Scarlet and Annabel :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great list. I love Calla.
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I have a cousin named Garrett and a niece named Annabelle- those are both great names. And I love Josephine (Jo or Josie) and Scarlett.
ReplyDeleteI love the names Calla, Annabel and Dean! You can't really help liking Dean cause the actor is gorgeous! Hehe!
ReplyDeleteOh I heart the names Sam and Dean :) They are the reasons I love those names so much. I never liked them before I watched the show!!
ReplyDeleteI also like the name Calla, although my love for it came from the book The Crowning Glory of Calla Lily Ponder. I think that name is beautiful!
Thanks for stopping by :)
Megan Marie
My list would have to include Jace (from the Mortal Instruments series) and Charlie (from the Charlie & Lola kids books). Since I'm all done having kiddos I've named our cats Charlie and Jace. ;-) I love how Charlie is such a wonderful older brother to his imaginative (and sometimes a handful) sister in the books and cartoon. And well, Jace Wayland? Umm, HELLO? lol
