Best I've Read 2011 Guest Post & Giveaway: A Beautiful Dark by Jocelyn Davies
Today I am so excited to feature one of my favorite debut authors of 2011. If you haven't read A Beautiful Dark by Jocelyn Davies - you're missing out. Oh, Asher. *sigh* We also have one copy of the book to give away so be sure to check out that information after the guest post and summary. A big thank you to Jocelyn and her publisher for participating.
Asher and Devin from A Beautiful Dark state their cases for Skye’s Heart:
Asher
Skye is passionate—she just doesn’t know it yet. She has so much potential inside to be
great and powerful, and she can’t squander it all by sticking to the rules. Rules are for
dorks like Devin who don’t know how to live. Mindless guardians who need their lives
mapped out for them. Skye already has the urge to break free burning within her. That’s
why she’s a skier. She tests those limits every day. She just needs someone to push her a
little over the edge, you know? And if there’s one thing I was born to do, it’s that. I can
show her that it’s okay to break out of her shell and not always be so guarded. And once
she does, she’ll be able to be free from the destiny that controls her. All I want is to give
her the freedom to live her own life, no matter how messy and beautiful. She may have
the blood of a Guardian and a Rebel, but she has a heart like mine. Someone who wants
to throw themselves at life head-first and never look back. Someone who is willing to
fight for what they believe in. And I’ll fight by her side. I always will.
Devin
Don’t let his bravado fool you. The Rebel doesn’t know what Skye needs any better than
she does. He’s selfish by nature, and he believes without a shadow of a doubt that his
way is the right way. But there is so much more to the story. There is so much more to
Skye’s heart than what Asher wants to see. A whole other half of it, in fact. Another kind
of blood that rushes through her veins. The world doesn’t thrive on chaos. Civilizations
exist because there are rules in place to govern and keep peace. Imagine a world with
no order. Violence and destruction would be the way of things, darkness would rule
supreme. Human life is the same. Skye has had a difficult life, she has endured pain and
grief, loneliness, heartache. I can give her calm and peace. Rules to live by, order to keep
her sane. Difficult choices would be made for her. She needs someone to make her feel
safe and guarded from danger. Someone who wants to take her pain, and give her the
happiness she deserves. I am the one who can give her those things. I can help her be the
best version of herself.
Who do you think is the right choice for Skye? Vote now!
(Leaving your vote in the comments will earn you +2 entries into this giveaway.)
On the night of Skye's seventeenth birthday, she meets two enigmatic strangers. Complete opposites;like fire and ice;Asher is dark and wild, while Devin is fair and aloof. Their sudden appearance sends Skye's life into a tailspin. She has no idea what they want, or why they seem to follow her every move only that their presence coincides with a flurry of strange events. Soon she begins to doubt not just the identity of the two boys, but also the truth about her own past. In the dead of a bitingly cold Colorado winter, Skye finds herself coming to terms with the impossible secret that threatens to shatter her world. Torn between Asher, who she can't help falling for, and Devin, who she can't stay away from, the consequences of Skye's choice will reach further than the three of them could ever imagine.

Thanks for the awesome giveaway! It's hard to choose which guy would be better for her since I haven't read the book. But based on this post, I would Asher b/c I'm always intrigued with bad boy characters in books!
ReplyDeleteChen Chang
This is a difficult choice. But I'm going to go with Asher. Like many of the others I enjoy the fictional bad boys and I think he would make a good fit with Skye.
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna have to go with Asher. I mean, he might be "the rebel" but give me a break Devin sounds maybe a little too controlling. I'm sure Skye is smart enough to make up her own mind about right and wrong despite Asher's influence but from what I read, Devin doesn't seem to think Skye has a mind of her own.
ReplyDeleteWell, thank you very much for this giveaway! I am dying to read A Beautiful Dark. :)
