Best I've Read 2011 Interview & Giveaway: Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

The first book we are featuring is Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Be sure to read Paula's 5 birdie review.

Paula had the opportunity to interview Jennifer for the event and we are also offering our readers a chance to snag their very own copy of Obsidian. Check out the summary of Obsidian and the giveaway details at the end of the interview.

Paula @ Reading Lark: Hi Jennifer! Thanks for agreeing to an interview with Reading Lark. I always wonder what authors were like when they were children. Were you the kid in school who was always telling stories, or did writing come to
you later?

Jennifer: I was a really talkative kid growing up. Not with telling stories or anything like that. I just talked. A lot. I did start writing young. Wrote my first full length novel by hand when I was in middle school. It was...pretty bad.

Paula @ Reading Lark: You are really turning out new work quickly these days! When you start fresh with a new book idea, where do you typically start? Do you plot first, develop characters, or something else?

Jennifer: I don't plot as in outlining, but I usually have a good idea of what the plot is going to be. I get an idea about the characters next and then I start on page one, and trust me, nothing is more scarier than starting on page one. Your brain sort of empties out and all your great ideas run away from you. I do have a lot of books coming out, but here's a secret. These books (most of them) weren't written recently. Just to give you an idea:

Half-Blood (wrote that in 2007/2008)

Pure (wrote that in 2010)
Cursed (wrote that in 2009/2010)
Unchained (Adult series) (wrote that in 2010)

Paula @ Reading Lark: I'm hoping to help readers get a “taste” of Daemon with this question: if he was a dessert, what would he be?

Jennifer: Something rich and layered.

Paula @ Reading Lark: I like to think that book characters like to read, and since Katy's a blogger, she definitely does. What book(s) do you think Katy has read more than once?

Jennifer: She's definitely read Half-Blood a few times. She's a big fan of the author. (tee hee) I'd think she's also read Soul Screamers a few times, Touch, and she'd be big on angel books.

Paula @ Reading Lark: Finding out what's up with her neighbors changes life for Katy. Is there anything else that she would change?

Jennifer: She probably would've decided against going to the library.

Paula @ Reading Lark: I love how you describe the landscape in Obsidian. If you had your own private sanctuary on a 5-acre plot somewhere in the world where you could transport magically at any moment, where would that place be?

Jennifer: Some place that has a beautiful garden with tons of flowers and trees, with a quiet and remote reading place.

Paula @ Reading Lark: Is there a song that you feel is a good theme song for Obsidian, or maybe one of the characters?

Jennifer: ET by Katy Perry (Yeah, I went  there)

Paula @ Reading Lark: If you got the opportunity to work with any widely-known talent, who would you want it to be, and for what project?

Jennifer: Oh gosh, I could never pick one writer to work with. And I do believe some of the best talent aren't so widely known. But I'd loved to spend that afternoon with Rachel Vincent or Jana Oliver. Love their books.

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

  13. Obsidian is the electrifying, action-packed and tension-filled first book in the new Lux trilogy by author Jennifer L. Armentrout.

The immediate, intense and sizzling chemistry between the main character Katy and her next door neighbor Daemon will instantly captivate readers and pull them into this world of rivals, danger and forbidden attraction, that won't let go.

In this story of aliens - both good and bad, beautiful and ugly - it is the thrill of danger and the excitement of the unknown that keep these two characters alternately drawn to and repelled by one another.
