Arise Blog Tour: Interview with Tara Hudson

Reading Lark is excited to be part of the Arise Blog Tour. We'd like to welcome Tara Hudson to the Nest today. She stopped by to answer a few questions. Also, don't forget that Tara is also offering readers a chance to win a signed set of this series so be sure to check out the giveaway information and blog tour schedule for more great Arise features.

You can read my review of book one, Hereafter, here.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: Arise takes place in New Orleans. What prompted you to choose this setting?

Tara: Not only is New Orleans kind of my favorite place in the U.S., but it's also steep in rich, sometimes tragic history.  Places like that - places that carry so much emotional depth - really lend themselves to a good ghost story.  Plus, Voodoo is an incredibly important element in ARISE...I wanted Amelia somewhere that Voodoo serves as a functioning religion.  New Orleans is one of those places.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: Which character is your favorite to write?

Tara: Jillian - always Jillian.  Probably because she is more like me than any of my other characters.  She's snide and suspicious, but she also loves deeply.  That's one of her best-kept secrets!

Andrea @ Reading Lark: If you could meet three ghosts, who would they be?

Tara: Personally, I hope that these three people aren't wandering the earth, especially if my version of the afterlife exists!  But if I could, I would meet Ernest Hemingway (so that I could argue craft and politics with him), Coco Chanel (so that I could get fashion tips) and my grandmother Dorothy, who was a fiercely creative, Juilliard trained pianist.  I lost her when I was only ten, and I think we'd have a lot to talk about now.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: Do you have any celebrity look-a-likes for Amelia and Joshua?

Tara: Absolutely!  In my mind, Amelia has always resembled either Emma Stone (with dark hair, ala Zombieland) or Sarah Hyland (Haley from Modern Family).  Joshua has always been a little bit Jake Ryan, from the 1980s movie Sixteen Candles.  But if I had to go with a contemporary actor, it would be maybe Callan McAuliffe, if he dyed his hair black.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: What is your favorite bird? This one is a Reading Lark author interview tradition.

Tara: The Sandpiper!  Probably because that's the name of the street I live on, ha!
