Book Boyfriend: Lend

We decided that Thursday needed a little pizazz and stumbled on this meme while hanging out at one of our favorite blogs, A Book and a Cupcake. So we took ourselves over to The Unread Reader to see what it was all about and join the fun. The Unread Reader features this meme on Wednesdays, but we figured moving our participation to Thursday wouldn't hurt anything. We'd love it if you'd leave a comment if you participate in this so we can check out your book boyfriends as well.

My Book Boyfriend is
Lend Pirello

from Paranormalcy by Kiersten White
My ideal Lend is Max Schneider.

Facts about Lend:
*He is seventeen years old.
*His father is human, and his mother is a water elemental/spirit. He lives with his dad, and occasionally sees his mom at the pond in their back yard.
*He is an only child.
*He is immortal; he inherited that from his mother.
*He's a bit of a home body, but is willing to get out to social functions because it makes Evie happy.
*He is an excellent artist, and gives Evie some sketching lessons.
*He likes to study science. He hopes to one day do important work in cryptozoology.
*One of the reasons he likes to spend time with Evie is that she is one of the few people who can see him as he really is. He feels he can truly be himself with her.

Appearance:  He has a corporeal body, yet is nearly invisible to most people, when he's not wearing clothes or a glamour that replicates the look of a human. He can create a near-perfect copy of most people who are about his size, including the series' heroine, Evie. His usual glamour is a gorgeous teenage boy, with black hair, dark brown eyes, and olive skin. For this post, we have chosen Max Schneider as the face of Lend.

 Lend quotes:
I was hit by a horrible thought: what if he didn't want to hang out with me? I mean, sure, there were worse things. Like, if he was actually a psycho paranormal assassin, and had been waiting for the perfect moment to kill me. But I didn't think so. And somehow that would hurt my feelings less than if a teenage guy didn't think I was cool enough to spend time with. Especially a teenage guy who could be cute in so many different ways. ~ Evie, Paranormalcy page 72

"Here I am," he said softly- in his real voice. It was like his mother's but richer and with more of a human tone to it, making it far warmer and more familiar. Just like slipping into a steaming bath when you were cold all over; I couldn't imagine a better voice. "I think you should know," I said, pretending to frown, "I'm not going to be happy with your other voices now that I've heard the real one." He laughed and I went weak in the knees. ~ Lend and Evie, Paranormalcy page 268

"Is it sparkly?" I bounced impatiently on my heels as he opened it. he laughted and pulled out a delicate silver chain, threaded through an open heart-shaped pendant. Three pink stones lining one edge stood out in contrast to the dark metal of the heart. I pulled my hair off my neck and he clasped it there, the gtrace of his fingers against my skin raising goose bumps. . . "It's not just pretty. . . Practical, too. The heart is made of iron." . . . Leave it to Lend to find a way to protect me with faerie-repelling iron. ~ Evie and Lend, Supernaturally, page 44

Why Lend is my Book Boyfriend: Lend is the first person to be totally honest with Evie. He has nothing to gain from spending time with her, other than the pleasure of her company. He feels protective of her before he even knows her well, yet trusts her to figure things out for herself. He is smart, charming, generous, kind, and has goals for his future. He is supportive of Evie, but respects her independence.

There is more of Lend to come!  Endlessly, the third book in the series, is due out in late July. Be sure to read Paranormalcy and Supernaturally soon so you can get in on all the fun of anticipating its sequel!
