Book Boyfriend: Colton James

We decided that Thursday needed a little pizazz and stumbled on this meme while hanging out at one of our favorite blogs, A Book and a Cupcake. So we took ourselves over to The Unread Reader to see what it was all about and join the fun. The Unread Reader features this meme on Wednesdays, but we figured moving our participation to Thursday wouldn't hurt anything. We'd love it if you'd leave a comment if you participate in this so we can check out your book boyfriends as well.

Quotes:

"If there was a case to be made for waiting out the geekdom that is middle school before writing someone off as a complete loser, Colton James was Exhibit A. During the summer between middle school and high school, Colton had morphed into something of a hottie." (pg. 31)

"Colton had always been the boy next door, literally. Hayley and Taylor never knew a summer's day when they didn't chat with Colton, get into some harmless trouble at the Port Gamble General Store, or sleep under the stars.

He in his yard; they in theirs.

And then all of a sudden he seemed to have grown up." (pg. 32)

"...They'd kissed the first time behind the twin 50,000-gallon water towers on the edge of Port Gamble's business district. She could still feel his lips on her from that encounter. All other kisses would be measured by the first one. She was glad Colton had been the boy of her dreams." (pg. 168)

"To see him hunched over his computer at night, Coke can at the ready, Cheese Nips open and available for serial consumption, was to witness a boy's true intensity. Code was beautiful to Colton. It was elegant. It was nearly a living, breathing thing.

And yet, Colton James was no geek. He was fit, handsome, and could actually talk to adults while looking into their eyes." (pg. 173).

Why he's my Book Boyfriend:

Colton is just a nice guy and he's so supportive of his girlfriend, Hayley. When a childhood friend of theirs is found dead, the whole town is rocked with shock and grief. He stays by Hayley's side throughout the funeral and refuses to let go of her hand. When Hayley and Taylor's beloved dog, Hedda, goes missing he helps put flyers up around Port Gamble. He also is so awesome where his mom is concerned. Many kids wouldn't be able to handle a mother who fears leaving her house, but Colton is never angry with her. He helps her cope with life. He is so accepting of the ones he loves. Colton is attractive, loyal, and smart. What's not to like? He's the sort of boy every girl dreams about and every mother hopes her daughter will find.
