Book Boyfriend: Peeta Mellark

We decided that Thursday needed a little pizazz and stumbled on this meme while hanging out at one of our favorite blogs, A Book and a Cupcake. So we took ourselves over to The Unread Reader to see what it was all about and join the fun. We'd love it if you'd leave a comment if you participate in this so we can check out your book boyfriends as well.

Peeta Mellark from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
My ideal Peeta is Josh Hutcherson. Feel free to Google him!

 Appearance:
 Peeta is 16.
He has bright blue eyes and ashy blond hair.
His build is stocky and of a medium height.

 Facts about Peeta:
He is the male tribute for District 12 in the 74th Hunger Games.
He works in his parent’s bakery where his favourite tasks include decorating cakes.  He later develops this skill into camouflage and painting talents.
He is very strong, due to lifting and carrying 100 pound bags of flour in the bakery. He uses this strength to his advantage in the Games.
Peeta is kind and compassionate, and he actually doesn’t kill anyone in the Hunger Games, unless you count Fox Face, who ate poisonous berries which Peeta collected unwittingly... Peeta isn’t so great at identifying plants.
During the 74th Hunger Games (in the first book) Peeta suffers a grievous wound to his leg which didn’t heal properly despite Katniss’s efforts to get him medicine. His leg was amputated shortly after he left the arena.
Peeta is a very good public speaker – he always knows what to say to make people understand his point of view.
Peeta has long loved Katniss Everdeen (since he was 5), and he risked a beating from his mother when he purposefully burned bread so he could give it to Katniss who was starving. Peeta tries very hard to stay true to himself and not let the game makers or people of the Capitol turn him into someone else.

Quotes:
I’m sure the arena will be full of bags of flour for me to chuck at people. Peeta Mellark, p. 90
Tell me, do I still smell like roses? Peeta Mellark, p. 130
We’ll there is this one girl. I’ve had a crush on her ever since I can remember. But i’m pretty sure she didn’t know I was alive until the reaping. Peeta Mellark, p. 130
I want to die as myself. Does that make any sense? Peeta Mellark, p. 141
You here to finish me off, sweetheart? Peeta Mellark, p 252
You know you’re kind of squeamish for such a lethal person. Peeta Mellark, p. 258
Don’t die for me. You won’t be doing me any favors. Peeta Mellark, p. 297
I remember everything about you. You’re the one who wasn’t paying attention. Peeta Mellark, p. 302 We both know they have to have a victor. It can be only one of us. Please, take it. For me. Peeta Mellark, p. 343-344

 Why he’s my Book Boyfriend:
He is sincere, constant in his affections and kind of naive. He is very selfless and almost from the beginning it is abundantly clear that he has no expectation of surviving the Hunger Games, he just wants Katniss to. So he loves her no matter what, even if she doesn’t love him back, and he’d die for her. That pretty much makes him amazing.
