Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.
The concrete shale on the ground starts to shift and a breeze picks up, spattering rain against my cheek. The burnt smell is emanating from the wall at the end of the alley, breathing out of the pores of the brick itself.
A high-pitched wail fills the air: steel shrieking on steel like screaming horses.

"Do you know what I've been thinking about all day?" With him, it was anyone's guess. "No." His lips brushed the skin of my cheek. "Finding out if you look as good in striped socks as you do in reindeer ones."

Dorian leaned against the door, bringing his face close to hers. "Good night," he whispered, and she didn't stop him as he kissed her again. He broke it off before she was ready, and she almost fell onto the ground as he removed his weight from the door. He laughed softly. "Good night," she said again, heat rushing to her face. Then he was gone. Celaena strode to the balcony and flung open the doors, embracing the chill air. Her hand rose to her lips and she stared up at the stars, feeling her heart grow, and grow, and grow.
