Teaser Tuesday: Unraveling, Reached, The Gathering Darkness, & Toxic

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Then my broken skin begins to knit itself together right in front of my eyes. It starts at the base of the cut and moves up, until I'm staring at clean, smooth skin, and I can't tell where the cut was.

Holy. Crap.

~ Unraveling by Elizabeth Norris. Kindle Location 2039

I draw a ragged breath, the kind you take when the pain is too deep to cry, when you can't cry because all you are is in pain, and if you let some of it out, you might cease to exist.

~ Reached by Ally Condie, pg. 458 (ARC)

A new awareness crept over me. Except for my movements, the room was deathly silent. The sound of my hand smoothing over the sheet sounded like sandpaper on wood. My light footsteps and shallow breathing seemed amplified. The creak of a floorboard beneath my sneaker seemed to echo all the way down the hall. All of these sounds seemed intensely loud. There was no doubt, I was paranoid. And to add to my terror, I couldn't shake the feeling that unseen eyes watched me.

~ The Gathering Darkness by Lisa Collicutt, pg. 26

Desperate, I tried again to brace my feet against the metal, but it was useless. My sneakers kept sliding off. "Please," I begged, wondering if he could even hear my voice above the strange hum. "Let go."

~ Toxic by Jus Accardo, pg. 11
