Best I've Read 2012: Flock by Wendy Delsol

Our tenth and final book this year is Flock by Wendy Delsol. Andrea is a HUGE fan of this series and Candlewick has provided an amazing giveaway!

Andrea had the opportunity to do a character interview with the trilogy's main character, Katla LeBlanc, for the event and Candlewick Press is offering our readers a chance to win TWO amazing prize packs including all THREE books in the Stork trilogy. Check out the synopsis of Flock and the giveaway details at the end of this post. The Larks would like to thank Wendy Delsol for her time and Candlewick for the generous giveaway.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: What is the perfect outfit to wear on a date around the holidays?

Katla: This time of year, you can’t go wrong with a little sparkle. But just a little. Glittery accessories are like Sriracha sauce; a little goes a long way.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: I know that you're a huge Starbucks fan. Can you tell us the perfect drink for yourself, Jack, and Penny?

Katla: Usually, I’m a Caramel Macchiato gal, but, while available, I’ve been enjoying a Gingerbread Latte. Or two. Jack is a bit of a drip when it comes to coffee. Except, wait, maybe that came out wrong. That’s to say he likes a regular brewed coffee. “Drip” as opposed to espresso. A bold roast, naturally. Penny’s a tea drinker. When feeling spicy, she goes with a Chai.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: What is the best thing about living in Norse Falls?

Katla: It’s probably too lame to say Jack, so I’ll go with big, beautiful trees. And traffic. I do not miss the 405 Freeway.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: Now that you're story has ended, what are your plans?

Katla: I can barely think past finals. And of course there’s winter break to ponder. I can’t wait to sleep in for two weeks. Beyond that, I haven’t the foggiest. (Weather pun on purpose.)

Andrea @ Reading Lark: What's on your Christmas List this year?

Katla: There’s a clothing line out of Iceland, 66° North (the name, BTW, stands for the 66° N latitude line, the edge of the Arctic Circle), and—I kid you not—they have a Katla headband and fleece cap. Plus a Frost winter vest. Crazy, right? I mean, things like this are always happening to me. Well, I seriously must have them all.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: What is your favorite Norse legend?

Katla: The Jolakottur, the Yule Cat. A fashion-frenzied feline who rips into those who don’t have a new item of clothing at Christmas. It’s the perfect excuse to holiday shop. Simply respecting an old legend…

Andrea @ Reading Lark: We ask everyone who stops by The Nest this one, but it seems even more appropriate to ask you. What is your favorite bird?

Katla: The stork, of course. Now had you asked who is your favorite bird, that answer would have been Big Bird. Do not mess with Big Bird. There’s a defeated politician out there who learned that the hard way. And of course larks are sweet, too.

About the Novel

The climactic conclusion of a supernatural romantic trilogy starring a savvy, sharp-tongued heroine who taps into ancient Norse secrets.

After surviving her (shall we say) intense adventure in Iceland, Katla is psyched to be back for a blissfully uneventful senior year of homecoming and fashion explorations. But her hopes of dodging unfinished business are dashed by the arrival of two Icelandic exchange students: Marik, an oddly alluring merman-in-disguise, and Jinky, a tough gypsy girl. It seems Katla not only enraged the Snow Queen by rescuing her boyfriend, Jack, she also was tricked into promising her frail baby sister to the water queen — and Marik has come to collect. What’s worse, Katla doesn’t dare confide in anyone lest she endanger them, so even her soul mate, Jack, is growing suspicious. And now Katla’s stork dreams, her guide for matching babies with mothers, have become strange and menacing as well. Hold on for a thrilling finale as the heroine of Stork and Frost calls on her wits (and her wit) to protect those she loves and face a final mythic disaster.

  7. To be honest, I'm captivated by that cover, so I'd love to read them all and see if the insides are just as pretty. Also, while I adore hard copies, having audio books would be great on my commute to work.

  8. One of my favorite things about the series is that it focuses on Norse mythology. It's not something I'm super familiar with, so I really liked that element of these books.
