The fifth book we are featuring this year is Hidden by Sophie Jordan.

Jen had the opportunity to interview Sophie for the event and we are also offering #BIR2012 readers a chance to win a Harper Prize Pack including Hidden. Check out the synopsis of Hidden and the giveaway details at the end of this post. The Larks would like to thank Sophie Jordan for her time and HarperTeen for providing the giveaway packs.

Jen @ Reading Lark: What made you decide to diversify from writing adult romance novels to writing YA fiction based about dragons that can shift to look like humans?

Sophie: Well, firstly … I’m still writing adult romance. I doubt I will ever stop writing in that genre because I love writing (and reading them) so much and I have so many great readers clamoring for my next romance novel. But basically, I just started reading a lot of YA – like A LOT. When I wasn't writing, I was reading a YA books. I fell in love with the HUNGER GAMES and Lisa McMann’s WAKE series, and I knew I wanted to be a part of such an exciting genre. I couldn't wait to get started … and eventually I came up with the idea for FIRELIGHT.

Jen @ Reading Lark: I absolutely loved the ending to the trilogy – I thought it was so fitting and finished everything off for me on a really high note, making the series one of the most satisfying that I have read. If you can share without spoilers, what part of the trilogy was the most memorable for you to write – your favourite bit, or the hardest part...?

Sophie: Oh, probably at the end when Jacinda officially said good-bye to one boy (no spoilers here!) and chose the other one. Honestly, I love them both. And, to a degree, so does Jacinda. It wasn’t an easy choice.

Jen @ Reading Lark: I actually read Firelight and Vanish on the same day (a personal record!) because they sucked me in so much – what books have kept you glued to your seat until your eyes start to ache?

Sophie: Well, I just finished two arcs recently – THE RULES by Stacey Kade. Wow!! Just so goooooooooood. One of the best romances I’ve read in a YA in ages. And Demetria Lunetta’s IN THE AFTER just consumed me. Very gripping and scary in a good way.

Jen @ Reading Lark: I know many who loved the Firelight trilogy for its blend of romance, resistance against persecution and break-neck pace. What can your readers look forward to in your next YA novel, Uninvited?

Sophie: I’m so excited about UNINVITED! The book is really my response to the nature vs nurture argument. It’s still fast-paced and there’s still romance, but it’s a grittier read than the Firelight books. Given the topic, has to be. :)

Jen @ Reading Lark: The final question is something of a tradition for author interviews at Reading Lark... what's your favorite bird and why?

Sophie: The red cardinal. It was my grandmother’s favorite bird. When she was alive she had several cardinal “things” around her house. Cardinals always used to come to the bird feeder near her window, too, and when she passed away I would always see cardinals. Everywhere. To this day whenever I see a cardinal I’m reminded of her and my childhood.

About the Book

Jacinda was supposed to bond with Cassian, the "prince" of their pride. But she resisted long before she fell in love with Will—a human and, worse, a hunter. When she ran away with Will, it ended in disaster, with Cassian's sister, Miram, captured. Weighed down by guilt, Jacinda knows she must rescue her to set things right. Yet to do so she will have to venture deep into the heart of enemy territory.

The only way Jacinda can reach Miram is by posing as a prisoner herself, though once she assumes that disguise, things quickly spiral out of her control. As she learns more about her captors, she realizes that even if Will and Cassian can carry out their part of the plan, there's no guarantee they'll all make it out alive. But what Jacinda never could have foreseen is that escaping would be only the beginning....

Loyalties are tested and sacrifices made in the explosive conclusion to Sophie Jordan's Firelight trilogy.
