My Thoughts:

The Good:  This was definitely one of my most anticipated novels for 2013 - I absolutely adored Incarnate.  The writing of Ms. Meadows continues it's precedence of excellence. It's a widely known fear among well trod readers - call it the sophomore slump, a bad second book, or "I was so disappointed", but it's a real fear for us bookophiles. No reason for that with Asunder! It's engaging, clear and crisp, with a whole lot of "WAIT..did that...what?!"

The Meh:  Sam spends WAY too much time acting like a tool.  For someone who's lived 5,000 years and many lifetimes, he's acting like a big baby. But that's men for you. LOL  Forever manchildren. His and Ana's relationship does develop organically which I like (Instalove is a huge pet peeve of mine), but Sam did get on my nerves for the majority of the book.

Instead of focusing on the romance element, Asunder focusing on character and world development. YES!!!!  It's the mark of good writing in a literary world of bullstuff. (Do you like that? I can't claim originality on that. I got it from TBS, every time they run an originally R rate movie and change all the cuss words)  Ana decides who she is and who she wants to be. Protector of Newsouls. And the Newsouls that are being born are in danger - from prejudice and their own people.

The novel is fast paced and engaging.  It reads like how I imagine Sam or even Ana's music would sound like. I also don't think I will be the only one anticipating further adventures from the Incarnate series or any other napkin Jodi Meadows will scrawl her name on. It's just that good!

Summary:

DARKSOULS
Ana has always been the only one. Asunder. Apart. But after Templedark, when many residents of Heart were lost forever, some hold Ana responsible for the darksouls–and the newsouls who may be born in their place.

SHADOWS
Many are afraid of Ana’s presence, a constant reminder of unstoppable changes and the unknown. When sylph begin behaving differently toward her and people turn violent, Ana must learn to stand up not only for herself but for those who cannot stand up for themselves.

LOVE
Ana was told that nosouls can’t love. But newsouls? More than anything, she wants to live and love as an equal among the citizens of Heart, but even when Sam professes his deepest feelings, it seems impossible to overcome a lifetime of rejection.

In this second book in the Incarnate trilogy, Ana discovers the truth about reincarnation and will have to find a way to embrace love and make her young life meaningful. Once again, Jodi Meadows explores the extraordinary beauty and shadowed depths of the soul in a story equal parts epic romance and captivating fantasy.

  3. Glad to read that you've enjoyed it. It also makes me happy when sequels include more character and world development, and I am especially excited that you said her writing has improved. Yay! Loved INCARNATE and can't wait to read this one too!
