Book Boyfriend: Ezekiel Crosse

We decided that Thursday needed a little pizazz and stumbled on this meme while hanging out at one of our favorite blogs, A Book and a Cupcake. So we took ourselves over to The Unread Reader to see what it was all about and join the fun. The Unread Reader features this meme on Wednesdays, but we figured moving our participation to Thursday wouldn't hurt anything. We'd love it if you'd leave a comment if you participate in this so we can check out your book boyfriends as well.

This week's Book Boyfriend is Ezekiel Crosse from The Immortal Rules series by Julie Kagawa.

Nickname: Zeke

 Appearance:

Zeke is about 17.

He is very lean, and has a subtly muscled physique.

He has floppy blonde hair, which is a little messy and hides his eyes.

His eyes are a piercing bright blue

 Facts about Zeke:

He is a real people person, and always looks for the good in them.

He is great with kids.

He is handy with all kinds of weapons.

He is the adopted some of Jebbiadiah Crosse.

His great grandfather was one of the scientists first working to try and cure rabidism.

He is initially wary of Allie when he realizes she is a vampire, but then he tries hard to see past that.

Quotes:

One corner of his mouth quirked up. "Don't worry about it. We look out for each other out here." He flicked the canvas wall, lightly. "And like I said, if the tent falls on you in the middle of the night, don't panic. You'll get used to it. No one really worries about keeping things erect around here, and...Wow, that sounded bad."

“The mighty hunter,” I quipped as we snuck out the backdoor, escaping into the yard. “He can take down vicious rabids and rampaging boars, but one old lady can make him flee in terror.” “One scary old lady,” he corrected me, looking relieved to be out of the house. “You didn't hear what she told me when I got up — you’re so cute I could put you in a pie. Tell me that’s not the creepiest thing you've ever heard.” His voice climbed a few octaves, turning shrill and breathy. “Today for dessert, we have apple pie, blueberry pie and Ezekiel pie.”

He smiled, a real one this time, though his voice remained teasing. “So, what do you think I am?” Naive, I thought at once. Naive, brave, selfless, incredible and much too kind to survive this world. It’ll break you in the end, if you keep going like this. Good things never last.

"I know we just met, and we're all strangers, and you keep yourself apart for your own reasons. But I also know I haven't...felt this way about anyone before. And I think...I hope...you feel the same, because that was really hard for me to say. So..." He reached out again, taking my hand. "I'm asking you to trust me."

“He suddenly leaned in, and his fingers brushed my cheek. Warmth flooded my skin, and I frozen, waiting for him to pull back. He didn't  The tips of his fingers lingered on my cheek for a moment. Then, very slowly, his hand slipped forward, the palm brushing my skin.

“Fine." I glared at him and shook my head. Stubborn idiot. "But at least try to look a little more raider-ish, okay? We don't want to attract attention." Zeke's snort sounded suspiciously like laughter. "Allie, you're a beautiful, exotic-looking vampire girl with a katana. Trust me, if anyone is going to attract attention, it's not going to be me."

 Why he’s my Book Boyfriend:

He’s sweet, he’s selfless and he is determined. Zeke walks the hard road for those he cares about and he doesn't let fear deter him. He’s also a little naive and unspoiled; just plain lovely actually. And in my mind he is totally hot too...
