Book Boyfriend: Jules Marchenoir

We decided that Thursday needed a little pizazz and stumbled on this meme while hanging out at one of our favorite blogs, A Book and a Cupcake. So we took ourselves over to The Unread Reader to see what it was all about and join the fun. We'd love it if you'd leave a comment if you participate in this so we can check out your book boyfriends as well.

My Book Boyfriend is
Jules Marchenoir from
The Revenants (Die For Me) Trilogy
by Amy Plum

Jules's Appearance

"Next to him, facing away from me, was a wiry-built boy with slightly sunburned skin, sideburns and curly brown hair, animatedly telling a story that sent the other two into peals of laughter." ~ Die For Me

Who Does Jules Look Like?

According to descriptions of Jules, I believe that Daniel Sharman is as close a celebrity as you can get.

Facts About Jules

*  Jules Marchenoir was born in a small village outside of Paris in 1897.

*  Jules showed artistic talent at a young age.  At sixteen, his parents sent him away to study art.

*  His schooling was cut short when he was drafted into the war in 1914.

*  Jules was killed in September 1916 in the Battle of Verdun at the age of 19.

*  He died saving the life of famous artist, Fernand Leger.

*  Like all revenants, Jules re-animated three days after death.

*  When he isn't scouting the streets of Paris with his fellow revenants for the evil numa, or saving people from certain death by dying in place of them, he spends his free time in his art studio painting -- mainly female subjects -- and currently nudes.

*   Jules claims to be included in an infamous painting, The Card Players, by Fernand Leger...the robot-skeleton.

*  He is also infamous for his play-boy image...being an accomplished flirt.

*  Jules's best friend is Vincent.

*  Jules is hopelessly in unrequited love with his best-friend's girlfriend, Kate.

Quotes From/About Jules (all quotes from Goodreads)

“Lucky man," Jules said to me, leaning over to kiss my cheeks. "What I wouldn't give to be in your head." Instead of the usual quick air-kisses, he took his time kissing both of my cheeks tenderly. "Jules!" I gasped, feeling myself blush. He stood, looking up in space, and raised both arms as if in surrender. "Okay, okay, man. Hands off, I get it! But it's not often we get a young pretty human in the house. In fact, it's never." ~ Die For Me

~

“Jules wants me to tell you that it's a shame you have to fall for someone as boring as myself. He wishes he could take my place and show you how well an older man can treat a lady." ~ Die For Me

~

“As Jules kissed my cheeks he whispered, “She has nothing on you, of course, Kates. It’s just that you’re so very…taken.” ~ Until I Die

~

“How about I take you to my studio? Much less dangerous. Plus, I need a model and you could sit for me."
"You want me to sit for a portrait?" I asked stunned.
"Actually, at the moment I'm concentrating on full-length nudes, in the spirit of Modigliani," Jules said. He was making an effort to keep a straight face. "Just kidding, Kates. You're a lady."
Jules was trying the guilt-trip method of attack. And it was working.
"Ok, I'll pose for you," I conceded. "But under no circumstances will any article of clothing leave my body whilst I am in your studio."
"And if you're elsewhere?" he asked, breaking into a sly smile.
I rolled my eyes.” ~ Until I Die

~

“Sorry I'm not your boyfriend. And I mean that in all sorts of ways.”  ~ Until I Die

~

“It's with a feeling of despair that I return her to his arms. I want him to be angry. I want him to challenge me. Because then the truth will be out and I won't have to hide my feelings. But he trusts me too much to suspect me. And I love him too much to hurt him.” ~ Die For Her

~

“She loves Vincent body and soul. He is her true love. She will never feel for me what she does for him. But I will never stop loving her. And I have to learn to live with that.” ~ Die For Her

Why Would Jules Be My Book Boyfriend?

What was not to love about this guy?   He's passionate, adorably sweet, funny, artistic...and he would literally die for you.

Jules was the consummate playboy for most of his immortal life - he never took romantic relationships very seriously because falling in love with someone other than a revenant was just not possible without divulging his secret life dying in place of others and never aging.  However, when Kate Mercier started hanging around La Maison, he could not stop his heart from leaping every time she was near.  He so desperately wanted to show her how he felt, but he wouldn't betray his best-friend, Vincent, by doing that.  Unrequited love be damned, he couldn't help falling for her but remained strong for so long -- a testament to his character.

As I said...what is not to love about Jules Marchenoir?
