Teaser Tuesday: Through the Ever Night, The Woodcutter, Georgetown Academy: Book One, The Lock Artist, Transparent, & Easy

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

"Come back with me, Aria. Be with me."

Something brilliant unfolded inside of her at the sound of those words. She memorized them as she would a song: every note, unhurried, spoken in his deep, warm timbre. Whatever happened, she'd keep those words. She wanted nothing more than to say yes, but she couldn't avoid the anxiety that swirled in her stomach.

The Woodcutter passed by another treetop. Tucked within the knots and indentations of the wood was a pixie nursery. Curled in blankets of leaves, snuggled into the gentle support of the wood like pussy willows, the pixies blossomed and grew. As the Woodcutter laughed, the baby pixies' eyes opened and they were awake like Christmas morning.

"The truth is, Elle, how you handle this now is going to affect how people see you for the rest of your life at Georgetown Academy." Brinley whipped around to Ellie's armoire, opening the drawers and selecting a pair of tights.

"You play this wrong and you're going to become the John Edwards of G.A." She looked a Ellie, seriously letting it sink in. "There's no way to come back from that. Do you know anyone who doesn't hate that floppy-haired horny Ken doll?"

The problem was...I had learned on free standing safes, where I could really get my body up next to them and feel what I was doing.

As The Ghost had said so many times when he was teaching me how to do this, "It's like touching a woman, touching her in just the right way, knowing what was going on inside of her."

How do you do that if every part of the woman except her face is hidden behind a wall? I shook out my hands and stepped up to the dial.

He lets out a little laugh. "Well aren't we a pair?" I manage a smile. "Our families are jacked up." "And there's nothing we can do about it." "Ugh." I run a hand over my face. I'm sick of this, too. I'm sick of living in fear, sick of worrying myself to death, sick of being so helpless. Just thinking about stewing all day makes me tired. This itch runs through my bones, like I might snap if I don't move.

I fell out of a tree in sixth grade and broke my arm. I couldn't play my bass or braid my own hair for seven weeks. When I was fifteen. My best friend Dahlia went to summer camp for seven weeks. When she returned, she was best friends with Jullian. I remained friends with both of them, but things were never the same between Dahlia and me. Seven weeks after fall semester started, Kennedy broke up with me, and seven weeks later, I realized I was getting over him.

Seven weeks could change everything.
