Teaser Tuesday: Not a Drop to Drink, The Chaos of Stars, & The Burning Sky

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Lynn was nine the first time she killed to defend the pond, the sweet smell of water luring the man to be picked off like the barn swallows that dared to swoop in for a drink. Mother had killed people who came too close to their pond before, but over the next seven years they fell by Lynn's gun as well, their existence easily wiped out first by a bullet, then by the coyotes before the sun could rise. Death and gunpowder were scents from her childhood, but today the fall breeze brought something less familiar to her rooftop perch, and her nose wrinkled.

Floods. I have never seen such eyes. They're crystal blue, a shade that shouldn't exist on the human body, a shade I immediately crave, a shade that makes my heart beat a little faster- almost as if I recognize it. I want to steal it, paint it, throw it into every room I ever decorate. It's the most perfect blue I've ever seen. Even from this distance his eyes are simply remarkable.

But the prince thought so highly of her. And risked so much. She'd hate for him to be disappointed in her. She'd hate for her to be disappointed in her. In the four great adventures and all seven grand epics, books she'd cherished as a child, this was the moment the protagonist rose to the occasion and embarked on the legendary journey. No one in the stories ever said, thank you, but no thank you, this really isn't for me.

    1. It's actually a dystopian, but there are some pretty suspenseful, thriller like moments. It's more survival than murder mystery though.
