Book BFF: Grimalkin

Book BFF was created by Larks Andrea, Paula, and Jen to showcase some of our favorite ladies & was originally inspired by Book Boyfriend. We'd love it if you'd join us featuring your favorite Book BFFs and leaving links so we can check out your posts. We will be alternating between Book Boyfriends and Book BFFs on Thursdays.

This week my Book BFF is Grimalkin
from Julie Kagawa's
The Iron Fey and The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten

Grimalkin's Appearance:

"Directly in front of me, not five feet away, a pair of saucer-like eyes opened up out of nowhere, and I stared into the face of an enormous gray cat.

"There," it purred, regarding me with a lazy yellow gaze.  Its fur was long and wispy, blending perfectly into the tree and the entire landscape.  "See me now?"" ~ p. 66 The Iron King (ebook)

Quotes From/About Grim
(all quotes from Goodreads except where noted)

“Bravo," said Grimalkin, peering down from Cold Tom's chest. "The Winter prince and Oberon's jester agreeing on something. The world must be ending.” ~ The Iron King

~

“Careful, human.” Grimalkin appeared on the corner of the stage, overshadowed by the dead chimera. “Do not lose your heart to a faery prince. It never ends well.”
“Who asked you?” I glared at him. “And why do you always pop up when you’re not wanted? You got your payment. Why are you still following me?”
“You are amusing,” purred Grimalkin.” ~ The Iron King

~

Grimalkin yawned and licked his whiskers. "Not dead," he replied. "Hardly dead. But she changed her name and appearance so many times, even the oldest fey would hardly remember her. She likes to keep a low profile, you know."
Puck frowned, knitting his bows together. "Then how is it you remember her?" he demanded, sounding indignant.
"I am a cat," purred Grimalkin.  ~ p. 170 The Iron King

~

“Be quiet, Goodfellow,” Ash growled, peering into the shadows with narrowed eyes. “We’re not alone.”
“Yeah? How do you figure that, prince? I don’t see anyone.”
“The cait sith has disappeared.”
“ … Crap.”  ~ The Iron Queen

~

“Wait, you already know where you are?” Puck demanded as we edged toward the mouth of the alley, stepping over trash and piles of debris.
“How does that work, cat?”
“Most cities are very much the same, Goodfellow.” Grimalkin reached the edge of the sidewalk and peered back, waving his tail. “Trods are everywhere, if you know where to look. Also, I am a cat.”
And he trotted off down the street.” ~ The Iron Knight

Why Is Grimalkin My Book BFF?

Grimalkin has been a constant driving force in getting Meghan, Ethan and crew to their destinations...with minimal injuries.  He is all-knowing; he seems to be able to predict the future with uncanny accuracy.  And he is a TALKING CAT!!  Who wouldn't want someone like Grim and his words of wisdom guiding you through the trials of life...or if you find yourself in the Nevernever.  You bet I would be looking for him if I ever made it there!

  1. I love Grimalkin! He reminded me a lot of the Cheshire cat who I also love, not to mention he speaks fluent sarcasm.

  2. When I saw that Grimalkin was your Book BFF for the week I had to stop by. He is one of my favorite characters. I always think he is out for himself when ever he disappears, but in the end he is always there for the crew.

I cannot wait for the Iron Traitor! Team Ash!
