Book BFF: Celaena Sardothien
Book BFF was created by Larks Andrea, Paula, and Jen to showcase some of our favorite ladies & was originally inspired by Book Boyfriend. We'd love it if you'd join us featuring your favorite Book BFFs and leaving links so we can check out your posts. We will be alternating between Book Boyfriends and Book BFFs on Thursdays.
Celaena Sordothien – Throne of Glass series
Alias:
Lillian Gordaina
Appearance:
When we first meet Celaena she is “frightfully pale” beneath the covering of dirt on her skin, with matted hair and torn clothes, but we’re told that she was beautiful once.
Her eyes may have been blue or grey, but were surrounded by a “brilliant ring of gold around her pupils.” Her golden hair “still maintained a glimmer of its glory.”
She was “blessed with a handful of attractive features that compensated for the majority of average ones; and, by early adolescence, she’d discovered that with the help of cosmetics, these average features could easily match the extraordinary assets.”
Facts about Celaena:
Trained from the age of 8 after she was found on a river bank, she became the world’s most famous assassin.
She has a love of shopping – particularly for clothes and books.
Celaena had been born with the ability to do magic, but lost it when magic disappeared.
When she was a small child, she wanted to be a healer.
Quotes:
When she awoke every morning, she repeated the same words: I will not be afraid. For a year, those words had meant the difference between breaking and bending; they had kept her from shattering in the darkness of the mines.
I am Celaena Sardothien, Adarlan’s Assassin. If these men knew who I was, they’d stop laughing. I am Celaena Sardothien. I am going to win. I will not be afraid.
“When one doesn’t have access to a bath and perfume, I suppose one cannot smell as finely as you, Your Highness.”
“Over a million? A million books!... I’d die before I even got through half of that!”
“I like music because when I hear it I… I lose myself within myself, if that makes sense. I become empty and full all at thonce, and I can feel the whole earth roiling around me. When I play, I’m not... for once, I’m not destroying. I’m creating.”
Why she’s my book BFF:
Although a lot has happened to Celaena in her short life, including losing her family and closest friend, and being sent to a salt mine as a slave for a year, she does not allow herself to become a victim. Her spirit remains unbroken and she fights back against the wrongs done to herself and others.
She also loves books and shoes as much as I do.
She can shoot an arrow at a target, get a bullseye, and make a smart remark all at the same time.
Her arrogance and attitude are backed up by her ability and tempered by her openness and vulnerability. As a killer, she is lethal and ruthless. As a friend, she is loyal, devoted and trustworthy.
I love Celaena and this book series. She is fierce and never backs down and would make a perfect BFF.
ReplyDeleteThe more I read, the more I love her! I can't wait for the next book in the series.
