Review of Book #1: Fever

Bulletproof is the second book in Melissa Pearl's Songbird series. This book tells Morgan's story.

If you've read Fever, you'll know of Morgan and Brad. Well, Brad has now dumped Morgan. The story begins with Morgan, Ella, and Jody singing karaoke in a bar. As Morgan goes out to get a drink, she runs into Sean Jaxson, an attractive action movie star - "Mr. Bulletproof" himself. They meet, exchange some pleasantries, and go on with their lives.

Morgan has moved back home with her dad and she can't find a job. She ends up taking a job as a 2nd assistant to the director of a new television show. Second assistant, meaning a runner or gofer...or slave. It just so happens that Morgan's new boss, Mr. McKinnon, is directing the new musical tv series that stars none other than Sean Jaxson.

Unfortunately, Mr. Travis McKinnon is the boss from hell, so Morgan's first day doesn't go very well. Sean notices Morgan when Travis is yelling at her, but can't place where he has met her before. All he knows is that he wants to meet her again.

Eventually Sean and Morgan do meet again. Both of them feel an attraction for each other and as the story goes on, that attraction continues to build. Unfortunately, Morgan's job, Sean's career, and Morgan's family responsibilities make having a relationship very complicated.

Morgan's story is a heartbreaking one. With her mother leaving when Morgan was only 14 years old, she was forced to give up her dream of becoming a dancer. Instead, she became the mother to her younger sister Jody, and took on all the other responsibilities of the household. Her father was too distraught in losing their mother to be much help in running their home. But in taking on so much responsibility at such a young age, Morgan turned to the opposite sex for comfort and security. All these issues play into the difficulties with Sean and Morgan's relationship.

Sean's character was fascinating to watch evolve. Once he realized the BS he was being fed, he was able to take charge of things regarding his career and personal life. Only then could he try to make amends with Morgan.

Bulletproof was a fabulous book to read. I grew up in a very music oriented home. Having all the music mentioned throughout the entire book was wonderful. It helped to paint a much more vivid picture in my mind of what is going on in the storyline. I think that's why I have enjoyed the Songbird series so much. Melissa Pearl included a playlist at the end, which I have listened to several times since finishing the book.

Not only did we learn more about Morgan's character, we also got to know her sister Jody a lot better. Jody's life takes an interesting turn in this book so I'm excited to see what happens in the next Songbird novel. We also get to see some of Ella and Cole as well.

Melissa Pearl's novels have been a delight for me to read. I haven't found one that I didn't enjoy!

Content: There is some language and mild sexual content.

Morgan Pritchett doesn't need anyone. Strong-willed and confident, she's the master of organizing and looking after everyone around her. In her mind, she's bulletproof.

But she has one weakness - men. She can't seem to live without them, yet is unable to find her perfect match. After yet another break up, Morgan promises her sister and best friend that she'll write off men for the rest of the year...but then she meets Sean Jaxon.

Sean Jaxon has worked hard to become a Hollywood actor, scoring minor roles and slowly making a name for himself as an action sidekick. After a chance encounter with the stunning Morgan Pritchett, he decides to take a risk and put his dancing skills to the test by signing on for the lead role in Superstar, a TV musical. He never thought he'd reconnect with the girl who urged him to ignore his manager and be honest with himself, but when Morgan shows up on the set as a production assistant, he realizes he's found his ultimate weakness - her.

Their passion for dance and music will bring them together, but will their relationship be able to withstand the forces determined to pull them apart? As Morgan comes face-to-face with her long-buried demons and Sean decides just how much he's willing to risk for love, these two songbirds discover something...they're not as bulletproof as they thought.
