Henry followed her outside, moving as effortlessly as she did. They had always had that in common - neither was happy sitting still for long, unless they were writing. It would have been better if she had found him some distance away so they would have longer to talk. Her best memories of childhood were of following Henry into the woods around Walden Pond.

Roth staggered back a step and the transformation took hold. Skin darkened to a smooth, polished onyx and wings sprouted from his back, spanning ten feet and arcing high in the air. The arches were adorned with sharp, deadly horns, but unlike the Wardens, his skull was bare.

Most of the guests would catch glimpses of Pam, or Bryan, or one of the boys the next day or the next week, but some would not. A few would remember the end-of-summer picnic as the last time the Muldoons were seen together and alive.
