Throwback Thursday: Fantasy Summer

Throwback Thursday is a new feature at Reading Lark. We'll still be doing some Book Boyfriend Posts and Book BFF Posts on Thursdays as well, but the Larks wanted a little variety on Thursdays. Throwback Thursday will allow us to throwback to some of the reads we've loved -- whether it's a book reviewed last year, a book we hid under the covers to read as a teen, or a picture book from our childhood -- we hope you'll enjoy reliving the memories as much as we do!

Fantasy Summer

I lost count of how many times I read and re-read this book during my teen years. This was my Gossip Girl. ;)

The plot centers around Robin and her cousin Annie win internship spots at a teen magazine in New York City and want to have the perfect summer, despite growing apart in recent years. Along with their two roommates, they deal with boys, bosses, and the responsibilities and realities of being in the public eye.

Imagine the current method for forming boy bands and all-girl singing groups, but in a book, and you have Fantasy Summer. Each of the four girls has a distinct personality, seen in their clothing choices on the cover. I remember loving the romantic, small-town girl Annie (and her pink dress!) and the edgy, more-adult Torey (and her awesome blunt-cut bob!) the most.

Summary via Goodreads

Sixteen-year-old Robin's summer in New York, as an intern on a teen magazine, provides her with both happy and sobering experiences that expand her understanding of herself and other people.
