Author Interview & Giveaway: Annie Rachel Cole

We are excited to welcome author, Annie Rachel Cole, to the nest today. Be sure to check out the giveaway details at the end of this post.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: Why did you choose to self-publish?

Annie Rachel Cole: For years, I've tried the route of finding an agent. I've had requests for partials and even a full, but inevitably the rejects came. And yes, I have enough to wallpaper my office, until I got mad and threw them away, and decided to give self-publishing a shot. I figure I didn't have anything to lose. I knew it would be hard work, and it’s been a real learning experience. But I’m glad I made the decision to do it. As the saying goes, I’m not getting any younger and I've got a lot of stories to tell.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: Can you describe your novel in five words?

Annie Rachel Cole: Snarky female on a quest

Andrea @ Reading Lark: What are your top 3 favorite YA novels?

Annie Rachel Cole: Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling (love the whole series), Prince of Wolves by Quinn Loftis, & The Iron King by Julie Kagawa

Andrea @ Reading Lark: Does music inspire you? If so, what are a few songs from your playlist?

Annie Rachel Cole: I listen to a lot of music when I write. Even when I taught writing and reading in junior high, I played music. Here are some songs I listened to: The Politics of Dancing by Re-Flex, Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi, Twilight Zone by Golden Earring, Poker Face and The Fame by Lady Gaga, & Kryptonite by Three Doors Down.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: Where is your book set?

Annie Rachel Cole: In the fictional town of Pinewood, Texas. Home of the Fighting Unicorns! GO UNICORNS!!

Andrea @ Reading Lark: If you could travel anywhere in the world today, where would you go?

Annie Rachel Cole: I would start in Texas and work my way around the world! I want to see EVERYTHING!!! Stonehenge, the Great Pyramids, castles of Germany, Scotland and Ireland. I could keep going.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: What is your favorite bird?

Annie Rachel Cole: Fried Chicken or the Husband’s BBQ Chicken (We've placed in the top 3 including 1st place at several BBQ Cook-offs).

 Pick One:
--coffee or tea? Both—can’t pick. I drink lots of coffee, and during the summer, lots of iced tea.
 --winter or spring? winter
 -Zeus or Hades? Zeus
--Valentine’s Day or St. Patrick’s Day? Valentine’s Day
 --hamburger or steak? hamburger

About the Novel

Sixteen-year-old Raven Weir has a somewhat normal life until she receives a mysterious necklace…a necklace others are willing to kill her to get because it contains the key codes to Atlantis. Now she finds she’s the only one standing between Atlantis and those who want to use the power hidden there to take over the world.

And Zeus is at the head of that line.

On top of worrying about social acceptance at school, Raven has to get control of her growing powers before she harms someone. And it doesn’t help that the alpha Hellhound at school is attracted to her while members of his pack are trying to kill her. And then there’s the whole biological parent issue. Finding out you’re adopted is huge, but discovering you’re actually the daughter of Medusa and Poseidon will definitely cause problems.

Will Raven find the inner strength she needs to survive?

Will she be able to protect Atlantis?
