Author Interview & Giveaway: T.A. Brock

We are excited to welcome author, T.A. Brock, to the nest today. She's here to discuss her novel, Fatal. Be sure to check out the giveaway details at the end of this post.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: Why did you choose to self publish?

T.A.: I have several completed manuscripts on my hard drive right now. Some only existed for practice. Some are good but not something I feel like sharing right now. Some are currently being queried to agents/publishers. Fatal was in a category of its own. I couldn't quite figure out what to do with it. I loved the story. My beta readers loved the story. When my husband suggested self publishing… it just felt right. Basically, I decided to go the unconventional route with Fatal because it was the one story (out of several others) that seemed suited to self publishing.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: Which YA character is most like you? Why?

T.A.: A few days ago, I wouldn't have been able to answer this question. Or at least not as decisively as I can now. Buuuut, I just finished reading Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell and seriously, I've never been able to relate to a character as much as I did to Eleanor. She’s such a heavy character (no pun intended… okay, maybe a little pun intended) but she works through so much of it with humor and sarcasm. I do this too. Sometimes to a fault. Eleanor is quirky and some people don’t get her. This is me. Most of all, I share her nerdiness.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: Does music inspire you? If so, what are a few songs from your playlist?

T.A.: Music is definitely a huge part of my writing process. I majored in music in college so really it’s a huge part of my life altogether. The thing is, my music love spans such a wide range of genres so there’s no telling what I might listen to at any given time. I love using music to help me get into the mindset of a character. For Fatal, my playlist looked like this: Cold Shoulder by Adele, Not Alone by RED, Dead Man Walking by The Script, Sometimes by Skillet, In The Sun by She & Him, Never Surrender by Skillet, Would It Matter by Skillet, Falling Inside The Black by Skillet (I like my Skillet), Sleepwalker by Adam Lambert, Breathe Into Me by RED, and Only Hope by Switchfoot.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: Where is your book set

T.A.: FATAL is set in a fictional town called Asher. Asher is a small place tucked away in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. I picked this area of the United States because I spent some of my childhood there and specifically recall how dreary and dark it is (I’m such a fan of rainy days that it’s sort of like my dream destination) and I could picture my characters thriving there.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: If you could travel anywhere in the world today, where would you go?

T.A.: Italy. Anywhere in Italy. I’m pretty sure I’m one third Italian. Going strictly by how frequently I eat Italian food. (Using this standard, I’m also one third Mexican and one third Chinese!)

Andrea @ Reading Lark: What is your favorite bird?

T.A.: I feel a joke here… I reeeeally want to go there… *holding back a snicker* Okay, all better now. Since we’re talking about REAL birds and not fingers I’d have to say I really like doves and what they represent (peace/love).

Pick one:

Coffee or Tea? Coffee. My life sucks without it (that’s me being dramatic).

Summer or fall? Fall. I’d rather be cold than hot, any day.

Vampire or werewolf? Werewolf. Blood drinking gives me the heebs (even though I love Vampire stories).

Flowers or chocolate? Chocolate

Blue or gray? Gray
About the Author
T.A. Brock lives in Oklahoma, where Zombies do not thrive. When not immersed in the world of fantasy writing, she enjoys spending time with her big girl, baby boy, and hubs. Some of her favorite things are coffee (specifically with cream, sugar, and chocolate), music (especially something with a good beat), books (especially paranormal), and Tennis. She despises raw meat and therefore is exceedingly glad she’s human.
