Teaser Tuesday: Marie Antoinette Serial Killer, The Galaxy Game, All Fall Down, & Room

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Mummified heart? No, thanks. I was already having stress-induced hallucinations of a ghost in a ball gown. Seeing the shriveled heart of a ten-year-old boy wouldn't exactly nurture the cool, collected state of mind I was struggling to regain.

~ Marie Antoinette, Serial Killer by Katie Alender, pg. 111

If he had remained on the homestead, he could have used his majority to take up work at another homesteading with no need for permission or blessing. If he had remained there and the past two years had not happened and there was no cap with his name attached to it. If he had remained there and never had a father—only a mother, a sister, and a normal household with the ordinary struggle of selfishness and love. But he had a family that was not normal and a brain that was not normal and the government was too interested in both.

~ The Galaxy Game by Karen Lord, pg. 108-109

Murder.
Arson.
Homicide.
Scar.

I know it's no use, and so I do not mention the man I saw -- the one who didn't appear on a single surveillance camera and wasn't seen by any other witness. It's no use to talk about the scar that was on his face -- the one that was so cliched and manically sinister that everyone assumed my mind had pulled him straight from central casting.

~ All Fall Down by Ally Carter, pg. 26-27 (ARC)

". . . You're not afraid of monsters, are you?" It depends on the monster, if it's a real one or not and if it's where I am.

~ Room by Emma Donoghue, pg. 255
