Rules of Seduction Tour: Author Interview with Jenna Mullins & GIVEAWAY

We're excited to welcome Jenna Mullins to Reading Lark today. She's here to dish on Rules of Seduction.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: What is Vamp Camp? I love vampires. :)

Jenna: Vamp Camp is a fictional TV show I created in the world of Rules of Seduction that is sort of a nod to Vampire Diaries. Basically, the premise of the TV show is that when vampires come of age in the modern world, they are sent to a "camp" so they can learn to control their powers and take classes on the rules and regulations of being a vampire. So it's kind of like school, but more laid back and fun because there's also strength training, activities, fights, and obviously...love triangles. I could probably write another book just about the fictional TV show within my fictional book.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: What was the best date you ever went on?

Jenna: The third date with my boyfriend wasn't unique or particularly exciting, but it was very memorable because when he picked me up he brought me three cupcakes that he had leftover after baking a bunch for his film school classmates. First of all, the fact that this guy baked had me floored and second, the fact that he thought to not only bring me a leftover cupcake, but one for each of my roommates as well was the sweetest thing ever. It was that date when I realized he was something special. We had dinner that night and walked on the Venice boardwalk and that's when I started to fall for him. Three years later he still bakes for me!

Andrea @ Reading Lark: Who is your celebrity crush?

Jenna: Though I have a constantly changing list depending on what TV show I'm watching or what movie I'm obsessed with, one person always remains at the very top: John Krasinski. I've had the pleasure of meeting him twice and he was as sweet and funny as everyone thinks he is. He's one of the good ones in Hollywood. But currently, I'm also deeply obsessed with David Tennant as I'm watching Doctor Who for the very first time. And when Avengers 2 comes out my Jeremy Renner crush will flare back up I'm sure.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: If this novel was an ice cream flavor, what would it be?

Jenna: Ben and Jerry's Phish Food. It's just a big tub of sweet deliciousness that's fun to eat because of those chocolate fishes you keep finding.

Andrea @ Reading Lark: It's a tradition to ask - What's your favorite bird?

Jenna: Penguins. More specifically, baby penguins. Have you seen how fluffy they are?! I want to squeeze them.

About the Novel

The first rule of seduction is: don’t fall in love.

Fresh out of college, Dani Young heads for the LA sun to chase her dream of becoming a screenwriter-director. So when her former BFF turned actress Elise offers Dani the opportunity to work on the hit teen show Vamp Camp, Dani can’t refuse, even if it comes at a price: Elise wants Dani to seduce her boyfriend, Vamp Camp superstar Tate Lawrence. Turns out Elise has some major trust issues, and needs Dani to test Tate’s faith. The only rule: don’t fall in love with him.

Sure, Dani doesn’t mind occasionally glimpsing Tate’s megawatt smile…or accidentally-on-purpose brushing up against his perfect torso…but she’s no fool. There’s no way she’d ever fall for a shallow celebrity and no way one would fall for her, a lanky movie nerd.

But amidst vampire-crazed fans, a conniving fellow intern, and a devilishly handsome showrunner, Dani feels like all the rules she used to know have disappeared, except for one: Love doesn’t play by the rules.

Part The Devil Wears Prada, part How To Lose a Guy in Ten Days, this story of friendship and romance is sure to appeal to fans of Stephanie Perkins, Jennifer E. Smith, and Anna Todd.

About the Author

In fourth grade, Jenna put her classmates into a story about fire safety, and they laughed the entire time she read it aloud. Since then, she's been writing with the sole purpose to entertain other people. Fire safety, however, fell to the wayside when she accidentally set her grandmother's bathroom on fire when she was 12.

In 2010, she moved from Indiana to Los Angeles to intern at E!, and she is now a writer/editor/pop culture gatekeeper at E! Online. A Midwest girl who prefers Southern California weather, Jenna loves the Indianapolis Colts, saving Hyrule and training for her backup dream career: deciding what goes into the baskets on Food Network's Chopped. She currently resides in LA with her nerdy, handsome boyfriend Kyle and their two fluffier-than-normal cats, Glenn and Zelda.
