One would think that a series this lengthy could start to stale. I think the opposite is true of the Chicagoland Vampires. I grow more attached to Merit and company with each installment and find myself craving more time in this world.

Lucky Break takes place soon after the end of Blood Games. Ethan and Merit are off on a much needed vacation in the beautiful wilds of Colorado. They hope to escape supernatural drama for a few days to bask in each other, nature, and relaxation. In true Merit fashion though, all hell breaks loose. This time it isn't directly related to the Cadogan vampires, but they are pulled into the drama anyway.

A shifter has been found murdered in his home and his vampire wife is the #1 suspect. Sadly, the couple involved happens to also be Ethan and Merit's hosts. The supernatural beings in the peaceful valley have been waging war against one another for a century. This incident is a spark that could ignite a lethal battle between fangs and fur.

Ethan calls for back up and Gabriel descends with members of his pack to help quell the uprising.

A murder mystery + an ancient feud between vampires and shifters = a read I couldn't put down

One Last Gripe: This one was too short to allow for complaints.

Favorite Thing About This Book: I loved the background on the feud.

First Sentence: The world below us was dark, cities glowing in orange grids like electrical circuits strewn across black canvas.

Favorite Character: Merit

Least Favorite Character: Niall

In this thrilling new novella from the New York Timesbestselling author of Blood Games, vampire Merit bites off more than she bargained for when a romantic trip to a secluded Colorado town turns deadly.

Merit and Ethan are in desperate need of some alone time, far from the worries of Cadogan House, but trouble tends to follow wherever they go. Their attempt at a romantic getaway is quickly interrupted when one of Ethan's vampire friends shows up at their door--covered in blood and accused of killing her shifter husband.

Merit and her Master soon discover their vacation spot is far less idyllic than it appears. A centuries old quarrel between local vampires and shifters has made the town a perpetual supernatural battle zone, and this fresh blood has stirred the already volatile pot. Now, Merit and Ethan must put their passion on pause to figure out who's really responsible for the murder before all hell breaks loose...
