Reading the last book in a beloved series fills me with dread. On the one hand, I want to devour the book as fast as humanly possible because I need to know how things will end. On the other hand, I want to read painfully slow to draw out the final moments with characters that I adore. Into the Still Blue was traumatic for me because I adore Aria, Perry, and Roar. I have loved these characters since the first time I met them and to know that this where their stories end almost brought a tear to my eye. For some it might be silly and overly dramatic to get this worked up about fictional people, but Rossi's writing has a way of sucking you into the story. Her characters feel real to me. It was sad to say goodbye, but I couldn't have asked for a more heart pounding, perfect ending to an amazing series.

This one is hard to review without spoilers so I won't even go into the plot. I will say that it kept me on the edge of my seat and biting my nails. There were moments I laughed, moments I cried, and moments when my heart seized up in panic. I love when authors can make me care deeply about their characters' and the fates that await them. Rossi solidifies her spot as one of my favorite writers with this one.

The characters are truly what make this series shine, but Perry steps it up big time in this one. He's always been protective and loyal, but in this installment, readers truly get to see his soul. Perry is the heart of the Tides and he will do anything to make sure they are safe - even if it puts his life in jeopardy. There have been many literary boys that have crossed my path and made me swoon, but Perry might just have put them all to shame. Seriously, if you haven't met him yet, why are you still reading this review? Go and get the first book.

In addition to Perry, Aria is an amazing character. She's strong, courageous, and loves fiercely. She also blossoms in this novel. She takes all of the anger that has been burdening her soul and unleashes it in this one. There were moments when she just jumped right into the thick of the fighting with the guys; I was happy to see her hold her own. She's come so far since the first novel and grown into a person I admire.

Lastly, I don't know how anyone could resist Roar's charm. I want more of him.

Rossi has managed to combine well developed characters, an action packed plot, elements of science fiction, a dystopian social structure, and strong writing to create an addicting series that won't soon leave the landscape of my mind. I can't say I want to live in this world (mainly because I'm not big on adventure and danger outside of my reading), but I do want to stay connected to these characters. The ending left me wanting just one more novel, but also being okay with the resolution.

One Last Gripe: The beginning of this one was a little slow, but it quickly picked up momentum.

My Favorite Thing About This Book: Everything - I adore this series

First Sentence: Aria lurched upright, the echo of gunshots ringing in her ears.

Favorite Characters: Aria, Perry, Roar

Least Favorite Character: Sable

Their love and their leadership have been tested. Now it's time for Perry and Aria to unite the Dwellers and the Outsiders in one last desperate attempt to bring balance to their world.

The race to the Still Blue has reached a stalemate. Aria and Perry are determined to find this last safe-haven from the Aether storms before Sable and Hess do-and they are just as determined to stay together.

Meanwhile, time is running out to rescue Cinder, who was abducted by Hess and Sable for his unique abilities. And when Roar returns to camp, he is so furious with Perry that he won't even look at him, and Perry begins to feel like they have already lost.

Out of options, Perry and Aria assemble a team to mount an impossible rescue mission-because Cinder isn't just the key to unlocking the Still Blue and their only hope for survival, he's also their friend. And in a dying world, the bonds between people are what matter most.

In this final book in her stunning Under the Never Sky trilogy, Veronica Rossi raises the stakes to their absolute limit and brings her epic love story to an unforgettable close.

    1. I would wait to read book #2 right before this one is released. The second book is brutal so it would have been nice to dive right into the last one.

  9. It's always sad to have a series of books that you are reading to end. At least this one was done right. I haven't read it yet but I noticed that you loved everything about this book. There have been times when a series that I thoroughly enjoyed ended in a way that made me want to deny that it happened so I can rewrite what I wanted.
